Tiger Women's Lacrosse Assistant Coaches All Named To U.S. Elite Team
August 07, 2007 | Women's Lacrosse
All three of Princeton's women's lacrosse assistant coaches, as well as former Tewaaraton Trophy winner Rachael Becker Dececco '03, have been named to the United States Elite women's lacrosse team following a three-day tryout at UMBC last weekend.
Assistant coaches Michele DeJullis, a Penn State graduate, Amy Altig, a James Madison graduate, and Elizabeth Pillion '05 all made the 24-player elite team roster. Dececco was one of just two veterans from the 2005 World Cup team to make the elite team roster.
"We are so proud of all the Princetonians?players and coaches, current and former?who were selected to the U.S. national teams this past weekend," says Princeton head coach Chris Sailer. "We know they'll represent Tiger lacrosse extremely well. For our staff, it can't get much better than having all three of our assistant coaches as current members of the U.S. elite team. Having the chance to be taught and inspired by those three is an incredible opportunity for our players."
Three of those players, rising senior Katie Lewis-Lamonica and rising juniors Holly McGarvie and Kristin Schwab, made the roster for the 24-player U.S. Developmental Team.
The five former or current Tiger players among the 48 combined members of the two teams ties Princeton with Maryland and Virginia for the most representatives on the Elite and Developmental teams.
DeJuliis, a three-time first-team All-America at Penn State, is entering her fourth season as an assistant coach at Princeton. Altig, an all-conference goalie at JMU, joined the Princeton staff in July after two seasons as an assistant coach at Richmond. Pillion, a two-time first-team All-America, has served as Princeton's volunteer assistant coach the past two seasons.
Lewis-Lamonica was a second-team All-America pick in 2007 and led Princeton in goals for the second straight season with 51. McGarvie and Schwab are both two-sport athletes at Princeton who have led both the field hockey and women's lacrosse teams to NCAA tournament berths in each of their first two seasons.
The next activity for the U.S. teams will be the Stars & Stripes Weekend in October. The event will be held in Portland, Ore., and will feature competition against California, Stanford and Oregon..
