Men's Soccer Hits The Road For Matchup With American
September 06, 2007 | Men's Soccer
Another familiar opponent is up next for the Princeton men's soccer team as the Tigers travel to Washington, D.C., to face American Friday afternoon. Game time at AU's Reeves Field is 5 p.m.
After playing Loyola for the ninth straight season in the season opener last week, Princeton will meet the Eagles for the 11th straight season Friday in Washington.
The Tigers enter the game on a three-game unbeaten streak against American, including wins in each of the last two seasons. Last season's 1-0 victory at Lourie-Love Field came thanks to a Dan Cummins goal for Princeton five minutes into the second half. The Tigers earned a 2-1 victory in their last visit to Reeves Field in 2005, getting two goals from Adrian Melville.
Princeton went ahead early in the second half against Loyola last Friday but then fell victim to a pair of Greyhound goals in a one-minute span in a 2-1 defeat. The Tiger starting lineup included two freshmen, Teddy Schneider and Tim Sedwitz, and freshman Brandon Busch also saw action for the Tigers off the bench.
American finished 1-1 in the annual D.C. College Cup tournament held last weekend, falling to George Washington 2-0 on Friday before rebounding to defeat host George Mason, 2-1, in Sunday's closer. Tremaine Chinapoo and Jamie Davin scored for AU in Sunday's victory.
Princeton has six victories and two ties in 10 games against the Eagles since the current series between the teams began in 1997. Princeton head coach Jim Barlow was an assistant coach at American before returning to Princeton in 1996.
The Tigers return home to face another Patriot League opponent, Colgate, Sept. 14 at Powers Field at Princeton Stadium.
