Princeton-Syracuse Men's Lacrosse Moves To Giants Stadium As Part Of Big City Classic Tripleheader
November 10, 2008 | Men's Lacrosse
After combining for 15 of the last 21 NCAA championships, Princeton and Syracuse are hardly strangers to playing lacrosse on the biggest stages. Now the two powerhouses will be taking their show pretty much to Broadway.
Princeton and Syracuse will meet next April 4 at Giants Stadium in the Meadowlands as part of the first Inside Lacrosse Big City Classic. The event will be a tripleheader of men's lacrosse, beginning at noon when Virginia takes on North Carolina, continuing at 2:30 with the Princeton-Syracuse game and concluding at 5 when Hofstra takes on Delaware.
"Although it's a great sacrifice to take this fantastic game off campus, we feel that it was good an opportunity to showcase the rivalry and the sport in a major venue like Giants Stadium," says Princeton coach Bill Tierney. "Inside Lacrosse's efforts will guarantee a great experience for fans, students, parents, our players and anyone in the New York Metropolitan area and beyond."
The Big City Classic will follow Princeton's third appearance in the Konica Minolta Face-Off Classic, where the Tigers will again face Johns Hopkins at M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore. The 2009 Face-Off Classic, which will be played on Feb. 28, will have a different matchup in the doubleheader's other game, as Duke-Maryland replaces Syracuse-Virginia opposite the Tigers and Blue Jays.
Giants Stadium will host the first Big City Classic, and the teams have committed to a second one in 2010, which will be played in the new stadium under construction in the Meadowlands.
