Harvard Edges Princeton 3-2 in Men's Hockey
February 15, 2008 | Men's Ice Hockey
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Harvard's Doug Rogers scored three goals to lift the Crimson to a 3-2 win over the 17th-ranked Princeton men's hockey team on Friday night at the Bright Hockey Center. Princeton got goals in the game from junior Lee Jubinville and senior Mike Moore.
After a scoreless first period, each team found the back of the net once in the second stanza. Harvard scored first at 2:03 when Doug Rogers knocked a rebound into the Tiger net from a short angle. The power-play tally was assisted by Chris Huxley and Alex Biega.
The lead lasted less than four minutes before the Tigers knotted the game at 5:50 while skating with a two-man advantage. Freshman Taylor Fedun got the puck at the point and passed to senior Mike Moore on the side. Moore sent a centering pass to the far post for Jubinville, whose first shot was stopped, but his rebound slid under Harvard netminder Kyle Richter for his eighth goal of the season and his team-leading 29th point.
Harvard played a strong first few minutes of the third and jumped ahead 3-1 3:32 into the period with two goals in a 1:12 span. First, at 2:20, Mike Taylor made a perfect no-look pass to Rogers on the back door, who knocked the puck into the goal to make it 2-1. Moments later, it was again Rogers, this time on the power play, shooting a rebound into the Princeton goal for his third goal of the night.
Princeton got back to its game following that and moved back within a goal at 12:28 when Moore scored his third goal of the season on a blast from the point. Sophomore Dan Bartlett fed him the puck for an assist on the goal.
Princeton pretty much controlled play from that point on, but could not crack Richter and Princeton lost for just the second time in its last 11 games. The Tigers outshot Harvard 35-21 for the game, but Richter made 33 saves for the win. Princeton sophomore nteminder Zane Kalemba made 18 saves in the loss.
Princeton is 14-10 overall and 11-6 in the league with the loss. The Tigers will look to bounce back tomorrow night when they take on Dartmouth at 7 p.m.
