Women's Squash Sweeps Brown, Will Face Yale In National Semifinal
February 22, 2008 | Women's Squash
The second-seeded Princeton women's squash team took care of business on a snowy quarterfinal day at the 2008 Howe Cup national championships, held at the Jadwin Squash Courts in Princeton, N.J. The Tigers swept all 27 games and didn't allow more than four points in any individual game to set up a semifinal showdown with third-seeded Yale Saturday at 2 p.m.
Playing the three-round format, which will be used for all Howe Cup main draw matches, Princeton raced out to a 3-0 lead with wins by No. 3 Jackie Moss, No. 6 Kaitlin Sennatt and No. 9 Margaret Kent. All three claimed 9-0 wins in the third and final games of their matches. Sophomore No. 2 Neha Kumar continued her return from injury with a 1, 1, 2 victory over Laura Pyne, while senior Casey Riley and junior Maggie O'Toole were also dominant at Nos. 5 and 8.
With the victory assured, No. 1 Amanda Siebert, No. 4 Emery Maine and No. 7 Carly Grabowski took care of business quickly to conserve energy for Saturday's rematch with Yale, which fell to Princeton 6-3 in the regular season. Siebert allowed three points in the opener before sweeping the final two games, while Grabowski allowed only one point in the middle game of a 0, 1, 0 victory.
The 1-3 matches Saturday will be streamed live on TigerZone. The winner of the match will play for the national championship Sunday at 2 p.m.
