February 08, 2008 | Women's Swimming and Diving
The 2007-08 Princeton women's swimming and diving team completed a perfect regular season with a 155-128 win over Columbia on Senior Night at DeNunzio Pool. If the Tigers are as successful in their next home meet, they will win their third straight Ivy League championship.
Princeton finished the regular season 8-0, 7-0 against Ivy League opponents, and will now turn its attention on the 2008 Ivy League championships, which will be held Feb. 28-March 1 at DeNunzio. The Tigers won the 2007 Ivy title in dominant fashion at their home pool.
The evening opened with a Princeton win in the 200 medley relay. The team of Julie Kochman, Courtney Kilkuts, Justina DiFazio and Megan Waters won in a time of 1:47.86, while the team of Meredith Monroe, Karina Silvester, Brittney Delgado and Katie Miller placed second in 1:49.25.
Kilkuts, already an NCAA qualifier in the 200 IM, won the 400 IM in 4:30.43, while junior teammate Alex Wiley placed second in 4:35.02. Monroe then claimed the 200 free in 1:51.37, topping senior teammates Lisa Hamming (1:52.68) and Ellen Gray (1:55.09). Silvester won the 100 breast in 1:08.61, less than .3 of a second faster than junior Dana Benedict, and Delgado won the 100 fly in 55.73.
Senior Suzanne Rossi edged out classmate Brett Shiflett by .1 of a second to win the 50 free (24.47/24.57), but Shiflett returned the favor by topping Rossi with a time of 52.69 in the 100 free. Hamming won the 200 back in 2:06.21, while Silvester won the 200 breast in 2:25.74.
Junior Katie Giarra, the 2007 Ivy League Championships Diver of the Meet, won the 3-meter competition with 296.77 points.
