Tigers Edged in Regular Season Finale at St. Lawrence
March 01, 2008 | Men's Ice Hockey
CANTON, N.Y. -- After falling behind 2-0, St. Lawrence scored three unanswered goals to edge the 12th-ranked Princeton men's hockey team 3-2 on Saturday night at Appleton Arena. Senior Mike Moore and junior Brett Wilson scored power-play goals in the loss.
Princeton opened the scoring at the 9:00 mark of the opening period when Moore notched his fifth goal of the season and his second in as many nights. Sophomore Cam MacIntyre dug the puck out of the corner and fed the puck cross-point to Moore, whose wrist shot eluded St. Lawrence netminder Justin Pesony high. Junior Lee Jubinville recorded an assist on the goal to push his point-scoring streak to eight games.
Princeton then padded its lead with another power-play goal 56 seconds into the second period. Sophomores Brad Schroeder and Jody Pederson worked the puck point-to-point before Pederson fired a shot on net. The puck never made it to the crease as Wilson stopped it there and quickly refired it on the backhand for his team-leading 13th goal of the season.
Princeton's 2-0 lead last seven minutes before Pat Muir put the Saints on the board as he drove to the net. Muir scored on the rebound of a Charlie Giffin shot and Sean Flanagan also had an assist. St. Lawrence then drew even 56 seconds later when Alex Curran capped a 2 on 1 with shot across the grain just inside the far post.
Tied at 2-2 in the third period, Jared Ross then put the Saints ahead for good with the game winner at 5:18. Shawn Fensel fed Ross on the left point who took a quick hard shot that found the back of the net to give the Saints their first lead of the night.
Princeton outshot St. Lawrence 36-35 in the game, but couldn't solve Pesony, who made 34 saves for the win, while Kalemba stopped 32 shots in the loss.
Princeton falls to 17-12 on the season and completes the regular season at 14-8, good for a second-place finish, the highest regular-season finish in Princeton hockey history.
The Tigers will return to action on March 14 when they open their best-of-three quarterfinal series at Hobey Baker Rink. For ticket information call 609-258-4TIX or check out the tickets section of GoPrincetonTigers.com.
