March 17, 2008 | Men's Soccer
2004 Ivy League Player of the Year Darren Spicer '06, who played for the Minnesota Thunder in 2006-07, has signed with the Charleston Battery of the USL First Division, while 2006 first-team All-Ivy defender Jame Wunsch '07 has signed with the Cobh Ramblers of the Eircom Irish League premier division.
Spicer played in 17 games for the Thunder, also members of the USL First Division, this past season. He had two goals and three assists. He also played in an exhibition match this past summer for another USL first division squad, the Vancouver Whitecaps, against the Los Angeles Galaxy and international star David Beckham.
Wunsch signed with the Cobh Ramblers in February as the team was about to begin its 2008 season on March 7. The Ramblers won the first division of the Eircom League last season, earning a promotion to the premier division.
Spicer, who had 12 goals in 2004 to earn Ivy Player of the Year honors, was a two-time first-team All-Ivy pick and finished 10th all-time at Princeton with 26 career goals. He was originally drafted by Chivas USA with the first pick of the second round of the 2006 MLS Supplemental Draft.
Wunsch was a first-team All-Ivy defender for Princeton in both 2005 and 2006. Like Spicer in 2005, he earned the team's David S. Hackett Cup as team Most Valuable Player during his senior season of 2006.
