Aemisegger Claims Fourth All-America Honor To Complete NCAA Championships
March 22, 2008 | Women's Swimming and Diving
Sophomore Alicia Aemisegger earned her fourth All-America honor of the weekend and the seventh of her career during Saturday's final session of the 2008 NCAA women's swimming and diving championships. Aemisegger placed eighth in the 1650 free, which gave her three Top 10 NCAA finishes for the first time in her career.
Aemisegger, the two-time Ivy League Championships Swimmer of the Meet, earned her first career All-America honor in the mile by finishing eighth in 16:06.14. Aemisegger claimed All-America honors in the 500 free (fourth) and the 400 IM (fourth), and she was part of an Honorable Mention All-America 800 free relay team, Princeton's first since 1981. The multiple Princeton-record holder will now shift her focus towards the U.S. Olympic Trials this summer.
Princeton freshman Meredith Monroe nearly reached the consolation final in the 200 back, and she set a program record with a 19th-best prelim time of 1:57.15. Senior Brett Shiflett went 50.33 in her final Princeton swim, the 100 free prelim, while junior Justina DiFazio finished it in 51.14. Another Princeton senior who made her final swim was Lisa Hamming, who swam her 200 breast in 2:17.32, while junior Monika Friedman made her NCAA debut in the 200 fly with a time of 2:00.45.
Princeton returns five swimmers from the 2008 NCAA team, with sophomore Courtney Kilkuts joining Aemisegger, DiFazio, Friedman and Monroe. Princeton has won three straight Ivy League championships and eight of the last nine.
