Perrelle Earns Ivy League Women's Lacrosse Defensive Player Of The Week Honor
March 24, 2008 | Women's Lacrosse
Princeton sophomore goalie Kaitlyn Perrelle has been named the Ivy League Defensive Player of the Week after her play in goal helped the Tigers to a two big wins last week, including an 8-7 victory over No. 2 Virginia at Class of 1952 Stadium Saturday.
Perrelle had six saves against the Cavaliers, including one in a tie game with three minutes left, and also had a key interception to give the Tigers possession just a few seconds later. In addition to her six saves, she also had two caused turnovers and four ground balls in the game.
Against James Madison on Wednesday, she had five of her six saves in the first half and allowed just six goals in 46 minutes of action in a 17-10 victory over the Dukes.
For the season, Perrelle's 6.71 goals-against average ranks in the top five nationally in NCAA Division I. She has started all six games in goal for the undefeated Tigers this year.
Perrelle is the second straight Princeton goalie to earn the league's Defensive Player of the Week honor. Freshman Erin Tochihara, who has also seen action this season, earned the award for the Tigers last week.
Princeton, which was ranked No. 4 in the IWLCA poll last week and could move up when that poll is announced Tuesday, begins Ivy League play Saturday at 3 p.m. at Class of 1952 Stadium against Cornell. The game will be televised live by CBS College Sports (formerly CSTV).
