April 22, 2008 | Women's Lacrosse
No. 6 Princeton faces a conference regular-season champion Wednesday afternoon in Philadelphia when the Tigers play at Temple, which finished tied with Richmond atop the Atlantic 10 standings at 6-1. Game time at Geasey Field is 4 p.m.
Paid access to a live video stream of the game is available at OwlSports.com.
Princeton (10-2), coming off a difficult week that saw home losses to Penn and Dartmouth, hasn't lost three straight games since March 2003. That season, the Tigers recovered from that stretch to win 15 of their last 16 games and a second-straight NCAA title.
The Tigers have won nine straight games against the Owls, including the last four played at Geasey Field. The teams have met in the regular season every year since 1991, with Princeton winning 14 of the 17 regular-season games in that time.
Temple (11-4) started the year 3-3 but has won eight of its last nine games, including a 21-7 victory against Villanova Saturday at home. The Owls have a prolific scorer in senior Whitney Richards, who ranks in the top 20 nationally in Division I in scoring (39 goals, 30 assists, 69 points).
Princeton trailed 13-9 with six minutes left against Dartmouth this past Saturday but got back within 13-12 three minute later after Christine Casaceli's fast-break goal. The Tigers then appeared to tie the game at 13 with 1:20 left when Ashley Amo scored in front, but Amo's stick was ruled illegal after the play and the goal was disallowed.
The Tigers trailed 5-0 in the first half against the Big Green but scored seven goals in a seven-minute stretch late in the half to tie the score at 7-7 at halftime.
With offensive starters Katie Lewis-Lamonica and Kristin Schwab out of the lineup due to injury, the Tigers got balanced scoring on Saturday. Five players scored twice, including both Alison Murray and Anne Murray, while Anne Murray also had two assists. Princeton outshot Dartmouth 30-19 for the game.
Princeton ripped off the first seven goals of the second half on the way to an 18-7 win over Temple at Class of 1952 Stadium last April. A year earlier, the Tigers needed three saves in the final minute, including one on a free-position chance with five seconds left, to hold on for a 10-9 win over the Owls at Geasey Field.
The Tigers, now 4-2 in Ivy League play, will conclude their league schedule Saturday afternoon at Brown (1 p.m.). Princeton then concludes its regular season against a pair of fellow top 10 teams next week, hosting No. 2 Maryland April 30 at Class of 1952 Stadium and visiting No. 7 Georgetown May 3 in the regular-season finale.
