No. 6 Tigers Visit Brown In Ivy League Finale
April 25, 2008 | Women's Lacrosse
Sixth-ranked Princeton visits Brown in women's lacrosse Saturday afternoon (1 p.m.) looking for its 17th straight win over the Bears and, with a victory, at least a share of second place in the final Ivy League standings.
Live video and audio broadcasts of Saturday's game from B2 Networks, as well as live stats, are available at the above links.
The Tigers (11-2, 4-2 Ivy) have yet to lose on the road this season (5-0) and ended a brief two-game skid with a 15-7 victory at Temple in a non-conference game Wednesday in Philadelphia. Katie Cox had three goals and two assists to lead seven Princeton goal scorers, and the Tigers scored eight straight second-half goals to break open a close game.
Both Princeton and Cornell, which plays at Harvard Saturday, are 4-2 in league play. Should both the Tigers and Big Red win, they would share second place in the league standings. Should one or both teams lose, that team would fall back into a tie with 4-3 Yale.
For Princeton, Ashley Amo's three points at Temple (one goal, two assists) gave her 20 goals and 20 assists for the season and make her one of only a handful of players in team history to accomplish a "20-20" season. Her 20 assists already rank among the top 10 all-time at Princeton for a single season with three regular-season games and the NCAA tournament remaining.
The Tigers scored on 15 of their 29 shots at Temple, including 11 of 15 in the second half, continuing the offensive efficiency that has defined them all season. In their 11 wins, the Tigers have scored on better than 55% of their shots; in Princeton's two losses, that number drops to lower than 35%.
Brown (6-8, 2-4 Ivy), led by former Princeton assistant coach Keely McDonald, also won a non-league game this week, an 18-8 victory over Manhattan Tuesday. The Bears have Ivy wins over both Dartmouth and Columbia this season; Lauren Vitkus and Jesse Nunn have combined for 53 goals.
Princeton hasn't lost to Brown since the 1991 season. In 16 straight victories over the Bears beginning in 1992, the Tigers have outscored Brown by a combined total of 218-85.
The Tigers play a pair of fellow top 10 opponents next week to conclude the regular season, hosting No. 2 Maryland Wednesday night and visiting No. 7 Georgetown May 3 in the regular-season finale. The Maryland game will be televised on a tape-delayed basis by Comcast Sports; audio broadcasts for both games will be available at GoPrincetonTigers.com.
