Tigers Host Terps In Top Six Matchup As Regular Season Hits Final Week

Sixth-ranked Princeton, back on track thanks to two wins last week by a combined score of 30-9, welcomes fourth-ranked Maryland to Class of 1952 Stadium Wednesday night (7 p.m.) for the first of two huge non-conference games to end the regular season.
Live video through the TigerZone and free live audio and live stats will be available at GoPrincetonTigers.com. Locally, Comcast Sports (formerly Patriot 8) will broadcast the game on a tape-delayed basis Thursday night at 9 p.m.
Both ranked in the top five for most of the year, Princeton and Maryland have combined for 27 wins in 31 games this season. Ironically, both of Maryland's losses, to Duke in March and to Virginia Sunday in overtime in the ACC tournament final, have come against teams Princeton beat earlier this season.
Outside of conference play, Princeton and Maryland have one of the best rivalries in Division I collegiate lacrosse. Each of the last four regular-season games between the teams has been decided by one goal, with three of those games (2004, 2005 and 2007) going to overtime.
Last year's 13-12 overtime win for Maryland in College Park was a game that featured 11 ties, including a tie at every score from 1-1 through 9-9. The Terps' Krista Pellizzi won the game thanks to a goal with four seconds left in the first sudden victory OT period.
For 10 consecutive seasons (1994-2003), either Princeton or Maryland won the NCAA championship.
Wednesday's game is the final regular-season home game for five Princeton seniors?Ashley Amo, Courtney Bird, Katie Lewis-Lamonica, Alison Murray and Norris Novak. That group will be recognized in a pregame ceremony. Both Lewis-Lamonica and Novak have earned All-America honors during their careers, while Amo, who has 22 goals and 20 assists this year, is certainly an All-America candidate in 2008.
Princeton led Brown 11-0 at halftime and 13-0 in the second half of a 15-2 win this past Saturday in Providence. The Tigers finished tied for second place in the Ivy League with Cornell at 5-2 in league play.
