Katie Cox Named Ivy League Defensive Player Of The Week
April 07, 2008 | Women's Lacrosse
Princeton junior Katie Cox, who helped to hold one of Yale's top scorers without a point in a Tiger win Saturday, has been named the Ivy League Defensive Player of the Week in women's lacrosse.
Cox had the primary defensive responsibility for Yale's Kat Peetz, who entered the game with 19 goals and 24 points on the season. Peetz did not have a point in Princeton's 9-6 win as the Tigers held Yale to nearly five goals fewer than its season average.
Earlier in the week, in a 15-4 victory over Columbia, Cox had had two caused turnovers and two ground balls for the Tigers.
The Garden City, N.Y., native, a midfielder, also has four goals and four assists this season and ranks among the team leaders with 13 ground balls.
The second-ranked Tigers (9-0, 3-0 Ivy) play at Harvard Saturday afternoon at noon. Princeton is one of two remaining undefeated teams in NCAA Division I along with top-ranked Northwestern (11-0).
