No. 6 Tigers, Seventh-Ranked Hoyas Meet In Washington To Conclude Regular Season
May 02, 2008 | Women's Lacrosse
Princeton and Georgetown meet in the regular-season finale in women's lacrosse for the second straight season, once again with a lot on the line depending on the result. Game time is 1 p.m. at the Multi-Sport Field in Washington, D.C., and free live audio will be available at GoPrincetonTigers.com.
Last season, the teams met in Princeton in what was essentially an NCAA tournament play-in game, and the Tigers won a back-and-forth thriller 12-11. This season, both teams look like sure NCAA tournament qualifiers, but Saturday's result could have a lot to say about the seeding of both teams in the field.
Like its rivalry with Maryland, Princeton's series with Georgetown has been filled with close games. The teams have played 13 times since 1997; 10 of the games have been decided by margins of two goals or less, and three of the games have gone to overtime.
The No. 6 Tigers (12-3) will need to respond quickly from an 18-9 defeat to the No. 4 Terps Wednesday night. Princeton led 3-1 early in the game before Maryland scored seven straight times to take control.
No. 7 Georgetown (11-6) lost to Syracuse 12-6 in the Big East tournament championship game last Sunday at Notre Dame. The Hoyas led 3-2 at halftime in that game.
Selections for the 2008 NCAA tournament will be announced on Mon., May 5, between 7 and 8 p.m. on CBS College Sports (formerly CSTV). Princeton has made each of the last 10 NCAA tournaments and 15 of the last 16 NCAA tournaments since 1992.
