Holly McGarvie Earns First-Team All-America Honors From IWLCA

Holly McGarvie was justly rewarded for a stellar all-around season Wednesday when the Princeton junior was named a first-team All-America in women's lacrosse by the IWLCA and USLacrosse. Teammates Marie McKenna and Christine Casaceli earned second-team and third-team honors respectively.
48 players in Division I were named first-team, second-team or third-team All-Americas, and the group will be honored at an awards banquet in King of Prussia, Pa., June 14. All three Princeton players earned All-America honors for the first time in their careers.
McGarvie was one of 18 nominees for the Tewaaraton Trophy honoring the national player of the year and was a unanimous first-team All-Ivy pick in 2008. The Medford, N.J., native led Princeton and ranked among the Ivy League leaders in ground balls (47), draw controls (47) and caused turnovers (26) while also finishing second on the team with 35 goals.
She is the 22nd Princeton player to earn first-team All-America honors in women's lacrosse and the first to do so as a junior since Lindsey Biles and Elizabeth Pillion in 2004.
Second-team selection McKenna, a junior, started every game for Princeton in 2008 and helped the Tigers finish in the top 10 nationally in goals allowed per game. Also a unanimous first-team All-Ivy League selection, the Glenside, Pa., native was second on the team with 23 caused turnovers and ranked among the team leaders with 29 ground balls.
Third-team choice Casaceli, a junior from Longmeadow, Mass., led the Tigers with 38 goals in 2008 and tied for the team lead in scoring with 51 points. She also was a second-team All-Ivy League selection and finished among the team leaders in ground balls and caused turnovers.
The Tigers finished 13-5 overall and 5-2 in Ivy League play in 2008 and advanced to the NCAA quarterfinals before falling to eventual national champion Northwestern. Princeton made its 11th straight NCAA tournament appearance in 2008.
