No. 8 Seed Tigers Host Vanderbilt Sunday In NCAA Women's Lacrosse First Round

The Princeton women's lacrosse team hosts an NCAA tournament game for the first time since 2005 when Vanderbilt visits Class of 1952 Stadium for a 1 p.m. game Sunday afternoon. The Tigers, the No. 8 seed, are making their 11th straight NCAA tournament appearance and 16th trip in the last 17 seasons. Princeton has a 16-3 all-time record at home in NCAA tournament games and has won nine consecutive NCAA games at Class of 1952 Stadium. Vanderbilt is making its second-straight tournament appearance and its fourth in the last seven seasons.
The 2008 Tigers finished 12-4, with three of those defeats coming to teams seeded among the top six in this year's NCAA tournament (No. 2 Penn, No. 3 Maryland, No. 6 Georgetown). The 2008 Commodores enter Sunday's game at 13-5. Vanderbilt won six straight games late in the season before a loss to No. 1 seed Northwestern in the championship game of the American Lacrosse Conference (ALC) tournament.
The winner of the Princeton-Vanderbilt game plays the winner of the Northwestern-Notre Dame game in a quarterfinal game on Sat., May 17.
The Tigers and Commodores have played once before, in Princeton but not at Class of 1952 Stadium. The No. 1-seeded and undefeated Tigers beat Vanderbilt 11-3 in the 2004 NCAA semifinals, held across Washington Road at Princeton Stadium.
Vanderbilt coach Cathy Swezey is a Moorestown, N.J., native who was a lacrosse All-America at The College of New Jersey (then Trenton State). The Commodores' leading scorer, Margie Curran, is also a New Jersey native who ranks among the nation's leading scorers with 75 points.
Princeton features a balanced scoring attack, with four players scoring 26 or more goals this season. Junior Christine Casaceli has a team-leading 34 goals and 45 points.

Going For 10 ? Princeton has won nine consecutive NCAA tournament games at Class of 1952 Stadium. The Tigers' only home NCAA tournament loss this decade came at Princeton Stadium in 2004 in the NCAA championship game against Virginia.
