Tiger Women's Lacrosse Assistant Coaches Head To Czech Republic For Prague Cup
June 20, 2008 | Women's Lacrosse
18 players will represent the United States touring women's lacrosse team at the annual Prague Cup in the Czech Republic June 25-28, and three of those 18 players happen to be Princeton's three assistant coaches.
Volunteer assistant coach Elizabeth Pillion, a 2005 Princeton graduate, as well as fellow assistants Michele DeJuliis (Penn State '98) and Amy Altig (James Madison '05) will give the U.S. team a unique Tiger perspective in Prague.
The 18-player group leaves Sunday for Prague and begins play on Wednesday. The annual tournament features teams this year from the U.S., England, Germany, Scotland, Wales and the host Czech Republic.
The touring team was chosen from the pool of U.S. Elite and Developmental team players earlier this year. The U.S. Elite squad will return to the Czech Republic next summer for the 2009 IFLWA World Cup competition.
Pillion, who recently completed her third season as an assistant coach, was one of 20 finalists for the Tewaaraton Trophy in her senior season of 2005. She concluded her Princeton career with 104 goals and 150 points and finished ninth all-time at Princeton in career ground balls with 167. She was a first-team All-America in both 2004 and 2005 and a second-team All-America in 2003.
A first-team All-Ivy League selection as a midfielder in both 2004 and 2005, she was also honored with the C. Otto Von Kienbusch Award as the top senior female athlete at Princeton in 2004-05. She helped the Tigers win NCAA championships in both 2002 and 2003.
DeJuliis, a three-time first-team All-America at Penn State
in the mid-1990s and a member of the United States national team
program since 1994, recently concluded her fourth season as an assistant at
Princeton. She is the oldest member of the touring team at the Prague Cup by four years; all but two players among the 18 players and six alternates graduated from college in 2004 or later or are still playing in college.
DeJuliis serves as Princeton's offensive coordinator and also has primary responsibilities for skill development and team conditioning.
Altig was a two-time all-conference goalie at James Madison who just completed her first season as
a Princeton assistant coach. She joins 2006 Dartmouth graduate Devon Wills and alternate Kendall McBrearty from Virginia as the goalies on the 2008 Prague Cup roster.
