Serving Errors Plague Volleyball In 3-0 Loss At UC San Diego
January 29, 2009 | Men's Volleyball
Despite hitting .341 for the match and nearly matching UC San Diego point for point on the offensive end, 23 service errors came back to bite the Princeton men's volleyball team in a 3-0 loss. Both Phillip Rosenberg and Carl Hamming had 10 kills apiece, but it wasn't enough against the host Tritons.
UC San Diego improved to 2-4 with the 30-27, 30-26, 30-24, while Princeton fell to 0-3. The Tigers have their final opportunity to win a match on their California trip Thursday night when they head to Hope International College.
Hamming had his best match of the young season, hitting .615 with four digs and a block to go along with his 10 kills. Rosenberg had a team-best six digs, while senior outside Mike Vincent had six kills without an error and two aces. Senior Brandon Denham had 36 assists, five digs and three blocks for the Tigers, who scored 53 offensive points, just two short of the Tritons' 55 points. While Princeton had 23 service errors, UC San Diego had only 15, and the host outdug Princeton 29-22.
