Men's Hockey Falls 4-0 to Dartmouth
January 04, 2009 | Men's Ice Hockey
PRINCETON -- Dan Markowitz's first period goal proved all the scoring No. 20 Dartmouth would need in a 4-0 win over the eighth-ranked Princeton men's hockey team on Sunday afternoon at Hobey Baker Rink.
Markowitz scored off the rush as his shot as stopped by Princeton junior goaltender Zane Kalemba, but it bounced into the crease and went in off a Tiger skate. Troy Mattila and Adam Estoclet assisted on the goal at 16:50 of the opening period.
Princeton looked to even the score in the second period, throwing 18 shots on Big Green netminder Jody O'Neill, but the Dartmouth goalie sticked aside each shot and made 41 saves for the shutout.
Dartmouth padded its lead when Doug Rogers scored 4:38 into the second period and Andrew Owsiak scored two empty-net goals in the final two minutes to seal the win for Dartmouth.
Kalemba made 28 saves in the loss while O'Neill stopped 41. Princeton outshot Dartmouth 41-32, with five shots coming from sophomore Mike Kramer and four from senior Brandan Kushniruk and junior Jody Pederson.
Princeton falls to 13-3-0 overall and 8-2-0 in the ECAC with the loss, while Dartmouth is now 9-5-0 overall and 6-3-0 in ECAC play. The Tigers are back in action on Friday night at 7 p.m. against Union.
