Princeton Picked Fifth in National Preseason Poll

BALTIMORE, Md. (1/8/09) ? The Princeton University women's lacrosse team has been selected No. 5 in the Lacrosse Magazine annual preseason college rankings in its January issue. The team is the highest ranked team in the Ivy League with defending champion Penn trailing Princeton in the poll.
The rankings, compiled by Lacrosse Magazine staff after consultations with coaches, predict Northwestern to win its fifth straight championship. Syracuse, Duke and Virginia picked second, third and fourth, respectively.
Eight of the 20 teams ranked in the preseason poll are on the Tigers' 2009 schedule. Princeton kicks off the season hosting No. 20 Johns Hopkins and travels to No. 3 Duke in early March. They will take on No. 15 James Madison and No. 4 Virginia on a swing through Virginia. The final game of the season will be at No. 8 Maryland. Three other Ivy League schools were also selected, they include: No. 6 Penn, No. 14 Dartmouth and No. 16 Cornell.
