Double-OT Goal Deals Women's Soccer a Loss at Dartmouth
October 03, 2009 | Women's Soccer
HANOVER, N.H. – Caitlin Blosser scored her first career goal for the Princeton women's soccer team in the 14th minute Saturday afternoon at Dartmouth, but the Big Green followed that with two of their own in a 2-1 double-overtime win.
The match-winning goal came nearly 90 minutes after Blosser's, when Dartmouth's Ali Hubbard headed in a ball off a corner kick less than three minutes into the second overtime. Hubbard's winner was also long after her teammate, Aly O'Dea, scored the equalizer in the 27th minute in the run of play.
Blosser's goal was also off a set piece from the foot of fellow rookie Stephanie Iantorno, who lofted a free kick whick Blosser headed home.
The loss came despite Princeton goalkeeper Alyssa Pont making 11 saves on 13 Dartmouth shots on goal with 17 total Big Green attempts. It was the first time all season a Princeton opponent had outshot the Tigers.
The barrage of offense helped Dartmouth (5-4, 2-0) stay in first place in the Ivy League, while the loss was a tough blow for Princeton, which falls to 0-2 in league play and 3-6-1 overall.
The Tigers have just one day off before hosting American at Roberts Stadium in a 7 p.m. game Monday.
