Penn Sweeps Volleyball In Ivy Opener
October 04, 2009 | Women's Volleyball
The Princeton women's volleyball team got 12 kills from Sheena Donohue, but it wouldn't be enough for the Tigers in their 2009 Ivy League opener. The Penn Quakers earned a 3-0 victory Saturday night with a road win over the young Tigers.
Donohue, a two-time All-Ivy selection, led Princeton with 12 kills and hit .303 during the match, while fellow outside Lydia Rudnick recorded 10 kills, four digs and three blocks. Sophomore Cathryn Quinn added five kills, while classmate Hillary Ford led Princeton with nine digs.
Princeton dropped the opener 25-16, but battled early in the second and led midway through; the experienced Quakers surged late for a 25-21 win, and they carried that momentum into the third for a 25-15 victory.
The Ivy League road doesn't get any easier for Princeton, which heads to reigning league champion Yale Friday night at 7 p.m.
