This Week's Storylines
The Princeton men's hockey team plays its third consecutive weekend at home to open the 2009-10 season. Princeton is 2-2 after splitting its first two weekends of games.
Last Weekend
Princeton split its opening league weekend with a loss last Friday to St. Lawrence and a win on Saturday over Clarkson.
vs. St. Lawrence
The Saints scored three second period goals to erase a 1-0 Princeton lead in a 5-2 win. Freshman Michael Sdao and senior Tyler Beachell scored the goals for Princeton and junior Sam Sabky had two assists.
vs. Clarkson
Princeton scored three goals over the first two periods to build a 3-0 lead in an eventual 4-1 win. Junior Matt Arhontas scored two goals and added an assist in the win, while his linemates, senior Mark Magnowski and junior Mike Kramer, each added two points. Junior goaltender Alan Reynolds made 31 saves for the win.
Point Leaders
Matt Arhontas, Tyler Beachell and Mike Kramer are currently tied for the team lead with three points apiece. Nine Tigers have multiple points this season with seven garnering at least one goal and one assist. A total of 12 players have points this season.
Special Teams
Five of Princeton's nine goals this season have come on the power play, including two last weekend. Princeton has scored on 25 percent of its power-play chances and has killed 20 of the 21 penalties it has taken. Princeton's 95.2 percent penalty kill currently ranks best in the nation.
First Goal
Freshman Michael Sdao scored his first collegiate goal in Friday's 5-2 loss to St. Lawrence. He notched his first assist in the previous game against Yale.
In Goal
Goaltender Alan Reynolds made his first start of the season on Saturday against Clarkson and recorded a career-high 31 saves, including 18 in the first period, to earn his first win since December of 2007.
Home Heavy
This weekend's games mark the fifth and sixth home games of the season for the Tigers. After the weekend, Princeton will have played six of its 14 home games this season before traveling on a single road trip.

Princeton fell to No. 19 in the USCHO.com Poll and to a team receiving votes (equating to No. 17) in the USA Today Poll.
A Lot of Shots
Princeton led the nation in shots on goal last season, averaging better than 37 shot attempts per game. Princeton is averaging 35.50 shots in four games this season and ranks seventh, roughly four per game behind Wisconsin.
Preseason Polling
Princeton was picked to finish third in both the ECAC Hockey Preseason Coaches and Media Polls. The Tigers finished third in the standings a season ago.

Princeton vs. Dartmouth
Princeton and Dartmouth meet for the 186th time on Friday night with Dartmouth holding a 91-81-13 series edge. Princeton holds a 41-40-6 lead in games played at Princeton. Last season Dartmouth swept the Tigers, blanking Princeton in both games, 4-0 in January at Princeton and 2-0 in Hanover in February. Dartmouth goaltender Jody O'Neill held Princeton scoreless on 74 shots last year.
Scouting the Big Green
Dartmouth is 0-3 overall and 0-3 in the ECAC entering the weekend. The Big Green opened the season with a 5-3 loss to Harvard and was swept at Cornell (5-1) and Colgate (3-2) last weekend. Despite the two losses, Dartmouth has taken 40 or more shots in two of its games this season. Dartmouth was picked fifth in both the ECAC coaches and media preseason polls.
Princeton vs. Harvard
Princeton and Harvard meet for the 207th time on Saturday afternoon with Harvard holding a 145-52-9 series edge. Harvard also leads the series 52-23-4 in games played at Princeton. The teams have split their regular season games in each of the past three seasons. The last two years the home team won each game. Last year Princeton won 5-1 in early January at home and fell 3-2 in Cambridge in the regular season finale. Senior Dan Bartlett had a goal and an assist in each game.
Scouting the Crimson
Harvard enters the weekend 1-2 overall with all three games counting towards the league standings. The Crimson opened the season with a 5-3 win at Dartmouth and were swept last weekend by Colgate (5-4) and Cornell (6-3). Harvard held leads entering the third period of both games. Last season Harvard and Princeton split their meetings with the Tigers winning 5-1 at home and Harvard winning 3-2 in Cambridge. Harvard was picked to finish fourth in the ECAC coaches and media preseason polls.
Additional Notes
Balanced Attack
Princeton had contributions from all lines last season as 19 skaters contributed at least a point, with 18 scoring goals, and 13 Tigers reaching double digits. Twelve Tigers have tallied a point this season.
Most Disciplined
The Tigers were the least penalized team in the nation last season, averaging just over five minors per game at 10.6 minutes. Princeton is averaging 11.5 minutes per game thus far this season, the 10th lowest total in the nation.
Offense From the Back
Three of Princeton's top 12 scorers last season were defensemen in Jody Pederson, Matt Godlewski and Taylor Fedun. The Tigers had 74 points from defensemen last season, which ranked 15th among all teams in the nation.
Fit to Be Untied
Princeton saw its stretch of 81 games without a tie end in the consolation game of the ECAC tournament. Princeton had last tied a game since Feb. 2, 2007 at Brown.
ECAC Landscape
All 12 ECAC teams are again playing league games this weekend. Last weekend league play got fully underway with Colgate, Cornell, Quinnipiac and Rensselaer earning weekend sweeps to sit atop the league standings with four points each. Four other teams, including Princeton and Harvard are tied for fifth with two points.
On the Horizon
Princeton begins a stretch of playing nine straight games away from Hobey Baker Rink next weekend at Cornell and Colgate. The Tigers next home game comes January 4 against Quinnipiac.
