Princeton Looks To Extend Streak In Ivy Opener; Preseason Video Included
November 18, 2009 | Women's Swimming and Diving
The Princeton women's swimming and diving team has won 24 straight dual meets and 23 straight Ivy League meets, and will put both streaks on the line Saturday afternoon when the Tigers host Penn and Cornell at 4 p.m. in the friendly confines of DeNunzio Pool.
Above the story is Princeton's "TigerCam" video of the 2009 Princeton training trip, which took both the women's and men's teams to Coral Gables, Fla., during the first week of November. The video, shot by Princeton student-athletes and coaches, documents both the hard work and team-bonding experiences that take place during the trip.
That hard work, which head coach Susan Teeter especially praised this preseason, was shown with an extremely impressive opening weekend at the Big Al Open. Senior co-captains Alicia Aemisegger and Courtney Kilkuts joined several teammates as individual event winners, but there were also a significant number of lifetime bests produced by the rest of the lineup. A handful of newcomers also showed off their promise during the Big Al. Freshman Sarah Furgatch picked up her first collegiate win in the 200 breast, while Carter Stephens was part of a relay win and placed second to Aemisegger in the 200 fly.
While this will be both Princeton and Penn's first dual meet of the season, Cornell began its Ivy League season last weekend by splitting a tri-meet with Harvard (166-98 loss) and Dartmouth (190.5-104.5 win).
Princeton fans won't get another chance to watch the Tigers compete at home until January 30, when DeNunzio Pool hosts the annual H-Y-P meet. That tri-meet will feature every Ivy League champion of the decade (Princeton 8, Harvard 2).
