Top Male Athletes Of The Decade: No. 8 Soren Thompson '05

Soren Thompson was a dominant fencer at both Princeton and on the international stage.
Thompson was the 2001 NCAA epee champion as a freshman, and he was the national runner-up as a sophomore. He would be a three-time first-team All-America and four-time first-team All-Ivy League selection, and he also earned Academic All-Ivy League honors as an art and archeology major.
Thompson also was a member of the 2004 United States Olympic fencing team in Athens, where he would become the first American in 48 years to reach the men's epee quarterfinals. Along the way he defeated the No. 1 fencer in the world, Alfredo Rota of Italy before finishing seventh individually and fifth in the team competition. He also finished eighth in the epee at the 2003 World Championships.
