Wrestling Falls In Tri-Meet To Bucknell, Drexel
December 18, 2009 | Wrestling
Despite individual wins by Garrett Frey, Bobby Grogan, Andrew Hirai and Andy Lowy, the Princeton wrestling team dropped a pair of matches Friday afternoon in Lewisburg, Pa.
In the opener, Princeton fell to Bucknell 38-6. Frey, Princeton's winningest wrestler this season and the third-ranked competitor in the EIWA at 125 pounds, picked up a 3-0 win over Derrik Russell. Heavyweight Bobby Grogan added a 3-1 overtime win over Conor Sweeney, but the host Bison controlled the middle matches to take the win. One of the most impressive Princeton performances came from sophomore Daniel Kolodzik, who stayed close with the national No. 8 wrestler Kevin LeValley in a 5-2 loss.
Princeton followed with a 32-9 loss to Drexel. A forfeit win by Hirai and a 10-3 win for sophomore Andy Lowy at 165 pounds were the Tigers' lone wins of the match.
The Tigers, now 3-5 on the season, will next compete at the Southern Scuffle on Dec. 29-30. Below the individual results of Friday's matches is information on the Southern Scuffle, courtesy of UNC-Greensboro.
