ESTERO, Fla. (12/30/09) -- Dan Bartlett and Mike Kramer scored three minutes apart in the third period as the Princeton men's hockey team came from behind to defeat fourth-ranked Cornell 3-2 on Wednesday night in the third-place game at the Florida College Classic at Germain Arena.
Cornell opened the scoring in the final minute of the first period when Joe Devin's pass from the point was redirected by Riley Nash just over the goal line to give his team a 1-0 lead at the intermission.
Shots were even at 11 after a period, but the Tigers picked up the shot total in the second with 15 shots on goal and the Tigers drew even a second after a penalty expired late in the period when Derrick Pallis' point shot eluded Cornell netminder Ben Scrivens and hit the post, then laid in the crease before being shoved in by a Cornell defender. Kevin Lohry and Will MacDonald assisted on the goal. For MacDonald, it was his first collegiate point.
Cornell regained the lead just 17 seconds into the third period when Keir Ross' shot off the rush beat Princeton netminder Alan Reynolds. The Tigers though were able to battle back and a pair of special team goals spun the score in Princeton's favor.
Bartlett knotted the game at 2-2 at the 3:25 mark when he deflected a Pallis point shot by Scrivens on the power play. His team-leading eighth goal of the season was also assisted by freshman Eric Meland.
The Tigers then took the lead three minutes later when Kramer scored an unassisted shorthanded goal on the backhand after blocking a Brendon Nash point shot and going in on Scrivens on a breakaway.
Reynolds made 27 saves for the win while Scrivens stopped 36 shots in the loss. Princeton outshot Cornell 39-29.
The Tigers improved to 5-8-2 with the win and are now unbeaten in three games (2-0-1). Princeton hosts Quinnipiac in league play next Monday.
