Top-Seeded Women's Squash Advances To Semifinal Date With No. 4 Trinity
February 13, 2009 | Women's Squash
The Princeton women's squash team took care of business in the first round of the 2009 Howe Cup championships, defeating eighth-seeded Williams 8-1. An unfamiliar face looms for the Tigers; fourth-seeded Trinity is the lone team left in the field that Princeton hasn't seen this season.
In the final quarterfinal match of the national team championships, Princeton won 24 of 27 games en route to its second victory over Williams this season. The lone Tiger loss came at the No. 1 spot, where the talented Toby Eyre defeated Amanda Siebert 9-7, 9-7, 9-1. By that point, the match had been decided and the Tigers began to look towards Saturday's 2 p.m. semifinal against Trinity.
The Bantams, a 7-2 winner over fifth-seeded Yale Friday, lost two tight matches to teams Princeton defeated on the season. Trinity fell 7-2 to Harvard and 5-4 to Penn, while Princeton defeated Harvard 5-4 and Penn 6-3. However, the Bantams can rally around the fact that they are the last team to defeat Princeton in a dual match; in the 2008 season finale, Trinity earned a 5-4 victory over Princeton.
The winner will face either No. 2 Harvard or No. 3 Penn in the national championship match. All scores and a full weekend schedule can be found here.
