Women's Tennis Sweeps Friday Doubleheader

PRINCETON -- The Princeton women's tennis team opened its weekend trio of matches with 7-0 sweeps of St. John's and NJIT Friday on the Jadwin Gym indoor courts.
In the opener against St. John's, Princeton (7-4) took all three doubles matches by 8-1 scores, and five of the six singles matches were won in straight sets. Following the doubles points, Blakely Ashley and Sarah Hoffman gave Princeton the second and third team points while giving up a combined four games to their Red Storm opponents. Lauren McHale followed with the clincher in a 6-1, 6-1 win at first singles, and Taylor Marable, Hilary Bartlett and Sarah Huah completed the sweep.
Huah's match went to a 15-13 tiebreak in the first set, which St. John's' (1-6) Gabija Gasiunaite won, before Huah took the second set 6-3 and a 10-3 pro-set tiebreak after the team match was clinched.
Princeton was back at it in the afternoon with another sweep, this one against NJIT (3-1). Following victories in all three doubles matches, Ashley, Marable and Hoffman had the first three singles wins to clinch the team victory. Rachel Saiontz, Kelly Stewart and Rebecca Parks completed the sweep with every match coming in straight sets.
Princeton will complete the weekend with an 11 a.m. match against Maryland Saturday.
