Tigers Participate in Friends of Jaclyn Women's College Lacrosse Week
February 23, 2009 | Women's Lacrosse
PRINCETON, N.J. (2/23/09) ? The Princeton women's lacrosse team will be participating in the Friends of Jaclyn Women's College Lacrosse Week on Saturday, Feb. 28 when it hosts Johns Hopkins.
The Friends of Jaclyn Foundation (FOJ) was created to improve the quality of life for children suffering from pediatric brain tumors. FOJ pairs a child with a college team so that the child can be involved with the team as much as possible as an honorary member of the team.
Fourteen-year old Krysten Petrowski has been paired with the Princeton Tigers this season. Three years ago, Krysten was diagnosed with Medullablastoma, brain cancer. She underwent several brain operations and fell into a coma lasting four months, then endured six weeks of radiation and a years worth of chemo. Krysten has had a variety of challenges since that time, most noticeably to her mobility.
During testing, Krysten's doctors discovered the cause of her brain tumor was a genetic defect causing a condition known as familial adenomatous polyposis. Krysten's brother Alex was tested for the defect and he too was found positive. Both Krysten and Alex have since developed cancer of the colon.
Krysten lives with her parents, Alex, and three other siblings in West Milford, NJ. She enjoys reading, music, arts and crafts and making new friends. The Tigers are very thankful that Krysten and the entire Petrowski family have come into their lives, and they are looking forward to having them become a part of the Tiger team.
You may make donations to the Friends of Jaclyn Foundation on-line at www.friendsofjaclyn.org or by mailing a check to Friends of Jaclyn Foundation, 7 Ridgeview Road, Hopewell Junction, NY 12533. (Tax ID # is 243592).
About The Friends of Jaclyn Foundation
The Friends of Jaclyn Foundation is inspired by Jaclyn Murphy, an 11 year old, who was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor, in March 2004. Jaclyn's strength and courage, relentless spirit, and joy for life are an inspiration to those who know her. When granted her "Make-A-Wish", Jaclyn asked, "for all the children in the hospitals to be healed."
Friends of Jaclyn is a charitable organization, created to raise public awareness regarding pediatric brain tumors. Funds will be used to offset medical expenses for children who are diagnosed with pediatric brain cancer, as well as donate contributions to charities that are specifically related to pediatric brain tumors. It is the foundation's goal for Jaclyn to be able to continue to touch people with her smile, her kind heart, her hope and faith that some day there will be a cure! In the meantime, through Jaclyn's example, the Foundation can help to improve the lives of other children and families dealing with pediatric cancer.
