February 09, 2009 | Men's Ice Hockey
Princeton junior goaltender Zane Kalemba was named the ECAC Goalie of the Week on Monday after backstopping the Tigers to a weekend sweep at Colgate and Cornell. Kalemba kept the Tigers in both games until Princeton won each with dramatic wins late.
Kalemba stopped 47 of the 50 shots he faced in the two games as the Tigers swept the Central New York teams on the road for the second year in a row. On Friday at Colgate, Kalemba stopped 21 shots in a 3-2 overtime win, and a day later, he made 26 saves as the Tigers rallied late with two goals in the final minute of regulation to defeat Cornell 2-1.
Kalemba's performance helped him lower his goals-against average to 1.59 and his save percentage to .937. Both numbers rank in the top five nationally. He also picked up his 16th and 17th wins and ranks fourth in the nation in winning percentage.
Kalemba and the Tigers return to Baker Rink on Friday to host Clarkson. Princeton is currently third in the ECAC standings, while this weekend's opponents, Clarkson and St. Lawrence, are tied for sixth. Princeton moved up a spot to ninth in both national polls this week.
