Tigers Head South to Face James Madison

PRINCETON, N.J. (3/17/09) - The Princeton women's lacrosse team will take on its first of two opponents during spring break when it travels to James Madison on
Wednesday, March 18 for a 7 p.m. game.
Princeton has a 9-1 edge over James Madison in the all-time series. The two teams started playing each other in 1990 and played every season for the next seven years. The Tigers won six of those first seven meetings, with the Dukes taking a 9-8 overtime game in 1997. The teams met again in 2000 in the semifinals of the NCAA Tournament. The Tigers posted a 15-9 win in that game. Last season the teams reignited the series with Princeton taking a 17-10 victory at home.
Princeton is 3-1 on the season with all three wins coming at home. The Tigers' lone loss was a one-goal loss at No. 4 Duke on March 7. Princeton has already faced some tough competition this season, with three of its four opponents being ranked in the national poll. Senior Holly McGarvie and junior Kristin Morrison have 11 and 10 points each. McGarvie leads the Tigers in ground balls and draw controls with 15 each, and has nine caused turnovers. Morrison leads the team in goals with nine tallies. Seniors Sarah Steele and Christine Casaceli have nine points apiece. Seniors Kristin Schwab and Marie McKenna both have 12 ground balls and McKenna has a team-best 10 caused turnovers. The Ivy League Defensive Player of the Week Erin Tochihara has a 3-1 record and has played the entire 60 minutes the last two games, after switching off with junior Kaitlyn Perrelle in the season's first two games. Tochihara has an 8.54 goals against average and a .594 save percentage, making 41 saves on 69 shots. Perrelle has a 12.48 GAA and a .400 save percent stopping six of 15 shots.
James Madison is off to a 4-1 start and is ranked No. 16 in the nation. The Dukes lone loss was a 16-12 game against Notre Dame in Florida. The team has played just one home game this season, when they hosted Yale in a 10-7 win. Kim Griffin and Jaime Dardine are at the top of the scoring column with 18 points, with Griffin scoring a team-high 15 goals. Six of her goals have come from the eight-meter, where she has gone 6-for-9. She has has won 13 draw controls and picked up nine ground balls, the most on the team. Dardine leads the team in assists with six. Mary Kate Lomady and Casey Ancarrow have added 16 and 12 points, respectively, to the team's total. Leading the team in caused turnovers is Jess Brophy with seven. Alex Menghetti has started in four of five games between the pipes and has a 9.98 goals against average and a .468 save percentage, making 37 stops on 79 shots. Morgan Kelly has played in three games and made seven saves on 19 shots for a 15.13 GAA and a .368 save percentage.
