Kalemba Named a Hobey Baker Top Ten Finalist

Junior Zane Kalemba of the Princeton men's hockey team was named a Top Ten Finalist for the 2009 Hobey Baker Award, which annually honors college hockey's top player. Kalemba is this year's ECAC Player and Goalie of the Year.
Kalemba becomes the second straight Tiger to be a top 10 finalist for the Hobey Baker Award, following senior teammate Lee Jubinville, was a candidate in 2008. The two are the only two Princeton finalists for the award, which is named for the former Princeton player.
Kalemba led all goaltenders in the league in conference goals against and save percentage, and his numbers led the nation in both categories up until last weekend. He now ranks third in both categories. Kalemba was 22-8 in the Tiger net this season with a 1.69 goals-against average and a .936 save percentage. Kalemba led the nation in goals-against and save percentage for much of the season and has fallen to third in each following last weekend's ECAC Quarterfinal series.
In addition to becoming Princeton's second ever ECAC Player of the Year, Kalemba also won the Ken Dryden Award winner as the league's Goaltender of the Year. He was also named a first-team All-ECAC making him the first Princeton goalie to ever receive All-ECAC distinction.
The other finalists for the award are: Louie Caporusso, Michigan, Matt Gilroy, Boston University, Chad Johnson, Alaska Fairbanks, Zane Kalemba, Princeton, Jacques Lamoureux, Air Force, Jamie McBain, Wisconsin, David McIntyre, Colgate, Viktor Stalberg, Vermont, Brad Thiessen, Northeastern and Colin Wilson, Boston University.
