No. 11 Stanford Stops Women's Tennis, 6-1
March 25, 2009 | Women's Tennis
PALO ALTO, Calif. -- Princeton's women's tennis team was unable to stop the 10-year-long home winning streak boasted by Stanford, losing 6-1 Tuesday afternoon in California.
Blakely Ashley, at sixth singles, was the only Tiger to get a victory, outlasting Stanford's Jennifer Yen in a third-set pro-set tiebreak. Taylor Marable and Rachel Saiontz, at fourth and fifth singles, respectively, were able to get their matches to a third set, but neither would have been able to tip the match. Stanford won the first three singles slots in straight sets and the top two doubles slots decisively, claiming the clinching four points.
The match capped a spring trip on which the Tigers went 2-2 with both losses coming to higher-ranked teams. Princeton (12-6) was ranked 39th last week and 48th this week. With the win, Stanford (11-2) extended its home winning streak to 144 matches.
