Defending National Champ Penn State Sweeps Men's Volleyball
March 28, 2009 | Men's Volleyball
Despite 13 kills, three aces and two blocks from All-East middle Mike Vincent, the Princeton men's volleyball team dropped a 3-0 road decision to EIVA powerhouse and national No. 9-ranked Penn State Friday night in Happy Valley. The Nittany Lions remained unbeaten in the league with a 30-20, 30-23, 30-27 victory over Princeton.
The Tigers fell to 7-8 overall and 2-5 in the Tait Division, while Penn State is now 19-3, 3-0. The Tigers are currently sixth in the division and need to remain in at least sixth to earn a berth into the EIVA postseason.
Vincent hit .556 for Princeton, but the rest of the team combined to hit only .176 for the match. Fellow middle Jeff McCown recorded nine kills for the Tigers, while senior outside Philip Rosenberg recorded six kills and five digs. Senior setter Brandon Denham paced the offense with 34 assists and added a pair of blocks.
Princeton will travel to NYU next Tuesday before playing its final five matches in the Tait Division.
