Columbia Visits No. 5 Princeton on Wednesday

PRINCETON, N.J. (3/31/09) ? The Princeton women's lacrosse team will host its first Ivy League game of the 2009 season when Columbia visits Class of 1952 Stadium on Wednesday, April 1 at 7 p.m.
The game will be webstreamed on Tiger Zone, and live audio and live stats will be available free of charge.
Princeton is undefeated against Columbia with an 11-0 record. The series began in 1998, a 17-1 win at Columbia. The Tigers have outscored the Lions 181-37 in the series.
Princeton improved to 7-1 this past weekend with a 15-8 win over Cornell in the Ivy League season opener. The Tigers moved up in the national poll to No. 5 with their fifth straight game. Six of Princeton's eight games have been against top-ranked teams, with its lone loss at No. 4 Duke.
After an 11-point week last week, sophomore Lizzy Drumm has taken over the stat sheet as the team's leading scorer. She has a team-high 19 goals and six assists for 25 points. Senior Holly McGarvie is right on her heels with 24 points off of 15 goals and team-leading nine assists. McGarvie also leads the team in ground balls with 23 and draw controls with 25. Seniors Christine Casaceli, Kristin Schwab, Sarah Steele and junior Kristin Morrison are also in double digits in scoring. Senior Marie McKenna has caused the most turnovers, 18 total. Sophomore goalie Erin Tochihara has a 7-1 record, a 7.97 goals against average and a .571 save percentage. In last week's NCAA statistics, Tochihara led the nation in saves and save percentage. This week's rankings were not published prior to going to print.
Columbia began the season with its best start in school history, winning its first five games. The team has hit a skid lately, losing the past three games for a 5-3 overall record. In Ivy League play the Lions are 0-2, after a 11-8 loss to Cornell, they fell to Penn 16-11 last Friday. The team came back to outscore the Quakers 8-3 in the second half, and scored more goals on Penn than any other team this season.
Brittany Shannon and Holly Glynn are the team's leading scorers with 28 and 27 points, respectively. Shannon has 24 goals, 10 of which have come from the eight meter. Glynn and Lauren Olsen have a team-best five helpers. Olsen along with Rachael Ryan and Gabrielle Geronimos are all in double figures in scoring. Amanda Goodhart leads the Lions in caused turnovers with 12, while Glynn has won the most draw controls with 17 total. Ryan and Taylor Gattinella have picked up a team-best 13 ground balls apiece. Emma Mintz has started in all eight games this season and has an 11.16 goals against average and a .437 save percentage. She has made 66 saves and allowed 85 goals.
