First Place on the Line as Princeton Travels to Penn on Wednesday

PRINCETON, N.J. (4/13/09) ? Ivy League superiority is on the line on Wednesday when undefeated Princeton and Penn go head-to-head in women's lacrosse. The opening draw is set for 7 p.m., at Franklin Field in Philadelphia.

Penn is ranked No. 3 and Princeton is No. 4 in this week's Inside Lacrosse national poll. The IWLCA poll will be released on Tuesday.
Princeton enters the game with a 10-1 overall record and a 4-0 Ivy League mark. The Tigers' lone loss of the season came at Duke by a score of 13-12. Six of Princeton's 11 opponents have been ranked in the national poll, with Princeton posting a 5-1 record over those teams. The Tigers are coming off of a 17-5 win over Harvard, which saw the squad take a 12-0 lead at the half.
Senior Holly McGarvie is at the top of the scoring column with 35 points, off of 21 goals and 14 assists. She also leads the team in ground balls with 34, draw controls with 38 and caused turnovers with 24. Sophomore Lizzy Drumm is right on her heels with 34 points, with a team-high 25 goals and nine helpers. Seniors Kristin Schwab and Christine Casaceli both have 24 points apiece, and junior Kristin Morrison has collected 23. Three other Tigers are in double digits in scoring. Behind McGarvie in the supplemental statistics is senior defender Marie McKenna. McKenna has 31 ground balls and 24 caused turnovers. Sophomore Erin Tochihara has a 10-1 record as Princeton's starting goalie. She has a 7.44 goals against average and a .578 save percentage, making 89 stops on 154 shots.
Penn is undefeated with an 11-0 record. The Quakers, along with Princeton, are at the top of the Ivy League standings with a 5-0 mark. Penn is 7-0 when playing at home this season and haven't lost a game at home since the National Championship game with Northwestern in 2007. The Quakers are averaging 11.62 goals per game and holding opponents to a stingy 4.86 goals per game.
Leading the pack offensively are juniors Courtney Lubbe and Ali DeLuca, with 34 and 33 points each. Lubbe has 2 goals and a team-high 12 assists, while DeLuca has a team-best 25 goals and eight assists. Junior Emma Spiro and freshman Erin Brennan both have 25 points, while three other Quakers are in double-digits. Spiro leads the team in ground balls and draw controls with 21 and 40. Senior Hilary Renna has a team-best 11 caused turnovers. Junior Emily Szelest has an 11-0 record as the starting goalie. She sports a 4.71 goals against average and a .495 save percentage, stopping 45 of 91 shots.
Princeton has a 18-14-3 edge over Penn in the all-time series that began in 1974. The Quakers started the series with a 14-game unbeaten streak, including three ties. Princeton got its first win in 1988, and went on to win 17 of the next 18 games, through 2006. Penn has won the last two meetings, a 14-10 win in 2007 and a 9-5 game last season.
Princeton and Penn have six common opponents and both teams are 6-0 against those teams. When comparing goals for, Princeton has the edge (84-74) but Penn has the edge in goals against (33-40).
