Yale Hosts No. 7 Princeton on Saturday

PRINCETON, N.J. (4/3/09) - The No. 7-ranked Princeton women's lacrosse team will travel to New Haven, Conn., to take on Yale on Saturday, April 4 at 2 p.m., at Reese Stadium.

Princeton had a 20-14-1 edge over Yale in the all-time series that
began in 1975. The Tigers have dominated the series since the early
'90s, dropping just two of the last 17 meetings. Last season Princeton
recorded a 9-6 win over Yale at home. The last time the teams met in
New Haven, Yale claimed a 6-5 game.
Princeton sports an 8-1 overall record and a 2-0 Ivy League record after a 15-5 win over Columbia on Wednesday. The Tigers are ranked No. 7 in the IWLCA poll and No. 5 in the Inside Lacrosse poll. Six of Princeton's nine games have been against top-ranked teams, with its lone loss at No. 4 Duke.
Senior Holly McGarvie is at the top of the scoring column with 17 goals and a team-high 11 assists for 28 points. She also leads the Tigers in ground balls with 27 and draw controls with 30. Sophomore Lizzy Drumm is the team's top goal scorer with 19 tallies to go along with seven helpers for 26 points. Seniors Christina Casaceli, Kristin Schwab, Sarah Steele junior Kristin Morrison are all in doube figures along with freshman Cassie Pyle. Pyle scored five goals in the Tigers' win over Columbia, doubling her point totals on the season. Senior Marie McKenna leads the squad in caused turnovers with 20 and has also picked up 23 grounders. Sophomore goalie Erin Tochihara has a 7.58 goals against average, which ranks sixth in the nation, and a .566 save percentage, second in the nation.
Yale enters the game with a 3-7 overall record and an 0-3 mark in the Ivy League. The team ended a four-game losing skid with a 15-7 win over Holy Cross on Wednesday. In conference, the Bulldogs lost to Penn 10-2, Dartmouth 8-6 and Harvard 8-5.
Senior Jenn Warden is the team's top goal scorer with 26 tallies and two assists for 28 points. Junior Jenna Block has a team-high 16 helpers to go along with 10 goals for 26 points. Junior Jessica Sturgill is also in double digits in points with 14 goals and five assists for 19 points. Warden leads the team in all three supplemental stat catergories, ground balls with 21, draw controls with 14 and caused turnovers with 14. Freshman Whitney Quackenbush is the team's starting goalie, and has played in all 10 games. She has a 9.16 goals against average and a .488 save percentage, stopping 79 of 162 shots. Sophomore Katie Janian provides back up, having seen just over 62 minutes of playing time.
