No. 7 Women's Lacrosse Battles No. 2 Maryland in Regular Season Finale

PRINCETON, N.J. (4/30/09) ? The third best scoring defense will meet the third best scoring offense on Saturday, May 2 when Princeton meets Maryland in the final women's lacrosse game of the regular season. The opening draw is set for noon at Field Hockey and Lacrosse Complex in College Park, Md.
The game will be webstreamed on ACC Select for a fee, and live audio and live stats will be provided free of charge.
Princeton enters its final game of the regular season with a 13-2 overall record, winning its last three games. The Tigers are ranked No. 7 in the IWLCA poll and No. 5 in the Inside Lacrosse poll. The team averages 11.93 goals per game and hold opponents to 7.40 goals per game, the third best scoring defense in the nation. Senior Holly McGarvie has 29 goals and a team-best 17 assists to lead the team with 46 points. She also leads the team in ground balls with 46, draw controls with 47 and caused turnovers with 33. Sophomore Lizzy Drumm has 40 points, and seniors Kristin Schwab and Christine Casaceli have 35 points apiece. Schwab has a team-best 32 goals. Sophomore Erin Tochihara sports a 13-2 record as the Tigers' starting goalie. She leads the nation in save percentage with a .573 and has the the third best goals against average at 7.03. She has stopped 125 of 218 shots this season.
Maryland leads the all-time series with Princeton, 20-8. The Tigers recorded a 8-7 win in the first game between the two teams in 1979, and Maryland went on to win 17 of the next 19 meetings. The teams have also met on a number of occassions in the NCAA Tournament. Since 2004, the teams have split its games 3-3, with three of those games being decided in overtime. The Terrapins have won the last two contests including an 18-9 decision last season in Princeton.
Maryland is undefeated this season with an 18-0 record and is ranked No. 2 in both national polls. The team earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament, winning the ACC Tournament last weekend. The team is outshooting its opponents, 591-375, and is averaging 15.58 goals per game while holding opponents to 9.25 goals per game. Freshman Karri Ellen Johnson and junior Caitlyn McFadden are at the top of the scoring column with 71 points each. Johnson is the team's top goal scorer with 62 goals and nine assists for 71 points, while sophomore Sarah Mollison is the team's top assist leader with 35 helpers to go along with 34 goals for 69 points. Six other Terps are in double digits in scoring. Sophomore defender Brittany Poist leads the team in ground balls and caused turnovers with 35 and 19, respectively. Johnson has won a total of 61 draw controls to lead the team in that category. As the starting goalie, freshman Brittany Dipper has a 13-0 record. She has a 9.25 goals against average and a .417 save percentage, stopping 91 of 218 shots.
The NCAA tournament selections will be announced on Sunday, May 3 between 10-11 p.m., on CSTV. The bracket will be posted on the NCAA Web site shortly thereafter. The first round games will be held on Sunday, May 10 at campus sites of the top eight seeds.
