Women's Lacrosse Falls to No. 2 Maryland in Regular Season Finale, 20-12

COLLEGE PARK, Md. (5/2/09) ? Seniors Holly McGarvie and Kristin Schwab combined for nine points as the No. 7-ranked Princeton women's lacrosse team fell to No. 2 Maryland on Saturday, May 2 in College Park, Md.
Princeton finishes the regular season 13-3, while Maryland completed its regular season 19-0.
Maryland jumped out to a 2-0 lead less then two minutes into the game, but Princeton's Schwab scored two to even the game at 9:48. The Terrapins went on a five-goal run in a span on three minutes to make it 7-2. Princeton answered with three straight goals with three minutes to play in the first, 7-5. The teams traded goals within 40 seconds before Maryland added one final goal before the close of the first to take a 9-6 lead at halftime.
The Terps rattled off four goals to start the second half to take a 13-6 lead, and the seven-goal deficit was too much for the Tigers to handle.
Junior Kristin Morrison tallied goals at 18:00 and 16:41, but after each goal Maryland would respond with two more. The Terps got ahead by 10 at 9:42 and went up by 11 one minute later. The teams traded goals with just over five minutes to play, before Princeton scored the final three goals of the game.
Morrison finished the game with three goals, while sophomore Lizzy Drumm had two goals and freshman Cassie Pyle had one. Sophomore Erin Tochihara made five saves playing the first 49:09. Freshman Jane Randall came in on relief for the final 10:51 and allowed three goals.
Caitlyn McFadden led Maryland with six points, while Sarah Mollison had four. Kerri Ellen Johnson and Laura Merrifield had three points apiece, while Karissa Taylor, Kristy Black and Jenny Collins had two each. Lynne Cooper earned the win in net, making four saves in 25:15. Brittany Dipper manned the goal the final 34:45 and made four stops.
Maryland outshot Princeton, 29-26 and had a 13-11 edge in ground balls. Both teams had 13 draw controls.
Princeton will learn its fate tomorrow night when the NCAA Selection Show airs on CBS College Sports between 10-11 p.m., Eastern.
