McGarvie Earns Player of the Week Honors

PRINCETON, N.J. (5/4/09) - Senior Holly McGarvie of the Princeton women's lacrosse team was named the Ivy League Offensive Player of the Week, it was announced by the league office on Monday, May 4.
McGarvie led the Tigers in scoring with nine points as Princeton defeated No. 16 Loyola, 13-7 before falling to No. 2 Maryland on Saturday in the final game of the regular season. McGarvie scored a team-high seven goals and added two assists for nine points. She also had seven ground balls, a team-best five draw controls and a team-best six caused turnovers.
Against Loyola, McGarvie matched a career best as she tallied four goals. With the game knotted at 2-2, McGarvie scored back-to-back goals midway through the first half to give Princeton a two-goal lead. She added her third after being heavily defended in front of the net and was taken down to the ground but not before sending a high shot into the back of the net. Later, McGarvie scored an eight-meter goal and finished the game with six ground balls, five caused turnovers and three draw controls. The win gave Princeton an undefeated 8-0 record at home this season. On Saturday, McGarvie had a five-point effort against No. 2 Maryland. She also chipped in two draw controls and a ground ball and a caused turnover each.
Princeton will host Georgetown in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Sunday, May 10.
