McGarvie and DeJuliis Lead US to Victory Over Australia

PRAGUE, Czech Republic (6/22/09) ? Senior Holly McGarvie and assistant coach Michele DeJuliis have helped the US World Cup team defeat the defending champion Australia at the 2009 Federation of International Lacrosse World Cup it was recently revealed on the USLacrosse.org Web site.
Down 9-4 at halftime, the US held Australia scoreless in the second half for the win. The Aussies began the game with a 5-0 lead with 13:38 to play in the half.
DeJuliis, who was named the captain of the team shortly after arriving in the Czech Republic, has tallied three goals and three assists thus far. McGarvie led the US in draw controls against England and Japan with four and five, respectively.
The US is now 4-0 in the tournament after a 10-9 win over Australia and is at the top of the Pool A standings. The squad posted a 17-8 win over England, an 11-4 win over Canada and a 26-12 victory over Japan.
Earning the No. 1 seed in Pool A, the US will face an undetermined opponent in the Quarterfinals on Wednesday, June 24th. They will face the winner of the play-in match between 3rd Pool B vs. winner Pool C ?play off' (Ireland).
