Westgarth Signs Three-Year Deal to Stay With Kings

On the same day that his brother signed with the New York Islanders, former Princeton men's hockey player Kevin Westgarth '07 inked a three-year contract with the Los Angeles Kings, the team that signed him as a free agent two years ago after completing his collegiate career.
Westgarth, made his National Hockey League debut with the Kings on Jan. 20, 2009 at Minnesota this past season and played in nine games, recording no points and nine penalty minutes. He also played in 65 games with the Manchester Monarchs of the American Hockey League, recording 10 points and a team-leading 165 penalty minutes.
Originally signed by the Kings as an unrestricted free agent on March 16, 2007, the 6-5, 241-pound Westgarth is a native of Amherstberg, Ontario. Before turning pro, he played four years of college hockey at Princeton, totaling 25 goals and 35 assists for 60 points and 160 PIMs in 116 games with the Tigers
Kevin's older brother Brett played the last three seasons in the AHL. Last year, the 6-2, 215-pound defenseman played for the Worcester Sharks, AHL affiliate of the San Jose Sharks, scoring nine points (2g, 7a) while totaling 137 penalty minutes.
Brett skated for the Tigers from 2002-07 where he compiled four goals and 20 assists for 24 points and 110 PIMs.
The two brothers were teammates for Princeton from 2003-07.
With the signing of both Westgarth's the six Princeton players under NHL contracts are all signed for the upcoming 2009-10 season. Jeff Halpern, Mike Moore, Darroll Powe and Brett Westgarth are all signed through next season, while Kevin Westgarth and George Parros are signed through the 2011-12 season.
