PRINCETON (10/14/10) - The Princeton men's soccer team looks to continue its winning ways when it resumes Ivy League play at Columbia on Saturday, Oct. 17 at 7 p.m.
Live stats will be available free of charge for fans that can't make it to New York City.
Columbia holds a 30-20-8 lead in the all-time series, but Princeton is unbeaten in the last seven meetings. The Tigers have won the last three games by way of shutout, including a 3-0 decision last year. Three different Tigers scored in the game that had Princeton outshooting Columbia 13-5. Ben Harms '10 put Princeton on the scoreboard in the 21st minute with help from Lester Nare and Matt Sanner. Nare made it 2-0 Tigers in the 65th minute off a Linnville throw and help again from Sanner. With three minutes remaining Brandon Busch converted on a penalty kick to seal victory. Princeton goalkeeper Sean Lynch made two saves during the clean sheet and Columbia's Alexander Aurrichio stopped four shots.
The one non-conference opponent the teams have in common is Seton Hall. Both teams defeated the Pirates by a 3-2 score.
Princeton is 7-3-1 on the season and is on a six-game winning streak. The Tigers sit in first place in the league standings, along with Penn, after defeating Dartmouth and Brown by matching 3-0 scores. The team is 2-2 when playing on opponent's turf and most recently earned a 3-0 when at Lafayette on Tuesday.
Junior Antoine Hoppenot and senior Josh Walburn are both in double digits in scoring. Hoppenot has tallied six goals and added three assists for 15 points, while Walburn leads the team in assists with four and adds four goals for 12 points. Walburn leads the league in game-winning goals, assists and points per game. Hoppenot is second in the league in points and goals. Sophomore Lester Nare has collected eight points and junior Manny Sardinha has seven. Sophomore Matt Sanner and senior Teddy Schneider have five points apiece. Senior goalkeeper Sean Lynch has started all 11 games and has a 0.99 goals against average and an .814 save percentage, making 48 saves on 59 shots. The captain ranks first in the league in saves per game and total saves.
Columbia is 4-6-1 on the season and 0-2 in the Ivy League after falling on the road to Brown 3-0 and Penn 1-0 to sit in seventh place with Yale in the standings. The Lions are 3-1 when playing at Columbia Soccer Stadium. The team averages 12.6 shots per game, putting 48 percent on goal to average 1.18 goals per game.
Freshman midfielder Henning Sauerbier leads the team in scoring with eight points off of three goals and two assists. Senior Bayo Adafin, junior Francois Anderson and freshman David Najem all have five points with Anderson and Najem each have a team-high three assists. Sophomore Will Stamatis has come off the bench to score two goals and six other Lions have a point or more. Junior Alexander Aurrichio has started in 10 games and has made 37 saves on 52 shots for a 1.43 goals against average and a .712 save percentage. Freshman Michael Attal provides backup and has made two saves on three shots in more than 61 minutes in goal.
