Men's Hockey Opens Season With Two Exhibition Games
October 19, 2010 | Men's Ice Hockey
The stretch begins on Wednesday night when the University of Quebec-Trois Rivieres visits Baker Rink to take on the Tigers at 7 p.m. Princeton will then practice for a few days before hosting Division III Morrisville State of the SUNYAC on Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m. Livestats for both games will be available on GoPrincetonTigers.com.
Princeton enters the 2010-11 season looking to return to the form that saw it make consecutive NCAA tournament appearances and earn 20-win seasons in both 2008 and 2009. Last season's squad struggled through injuries to eventually finish eighth in the final ECAC standings. Despite last year's finish, Princeton has hosted an ECAC playoff series in each of the past four seasons.
Princeton, which began official practices last Friday, will host UQTR on Wednesday night. The Patriotes started their Canadian college schedule in mid-September and have played 11 games thus far. UQTR met Dartmouth in an exhibition game last Sunday and fell in a 7-6 shootout.
Princeton and UQTR last met in an exhibition game to open Princeton's ECAC Championship season in 2007-08. That year the Tigers rallied from 1-0 and 2-1 deficits and scored two late goals to defeat the Patriotes 5-3. Keith Shattenkirk had the game winner with less than four minutes left to play. Six members of Princeton's current senior class played in the game as freshmen, with Taylor Fedun scoring a goal and Alan Reynolds making five saves in a period of play.
The Tigers host Morrisville State on Saturday for the second-straight season. Last season Princeton topped the Mustangs 7-0 in an exhibition game. Seven Tigers scored in the win as Princeton broke a scoreless tie with four second-period goals.
Princeton kicks off the regular season next weekend when it visits Yale for the fourth installment of the Ivy League Shootout. Princeton will face Dartmouth the first day and either Yale or Brown on the second day.
