PRINCETON (10/22/10) - The Princeton men's soccer team looks to continue its winning ways when it hosts Harvard in a nationally-televised game on Sunday, Oct. 24 at 5 p.m., live on ESPNU.
Princeton owns a 42-38-8 edge in the all-time series with Harvard. The teams first met in 1909. Princeton won the last year 2-1 in double overtime snapping Harvard's six-game unbeaten streak in the series. In that game last October, Antoine Hoppenot scored his second goal of the afternoon in the 102nd minute to give the Tigers the 2-1 win over No. 11-ranked Harvard. It extended Princeton's unbeaten streak to four games, going 3-0-1 between Oct. 14-24. Harvard's goal game on a penalty kick in the 66th minute. Sean Lynch made three saves for the Princeton while Harvard's Harms stopped seven shots.
Princeton is in the midst of a seven-game winning streak having not dropped a game since the Villanova game on Sept. 19 to position itself with an 8-3-1 overall record. The Tigers are in first place in the Ivy League standings, along with Penn, with a 2-0 mark with matching 3-0 wins over Dartmouth and Brown.
The Tigers are balanced in scoring with 10 different players scoring a goal. Junior striker Antoine Hoppenot leads the pack with seven goals and three assists for 17 points. Senior midfielder Josh Walburn is also in double digits in scoring with 15 points. He has scored five goals, four of which were game winners, and his five assists is a team best. Sophomore Lester Nate has eight points and junior Manny Sardinha has collected seven. The team captain Sean Lynch has started all 12 games in goal and has four shutouts to his name along with eight wins. He has made 54 saves and allowed 13 goals for a 1.08 goals against average and an .806 save percentage.
Princeton averages 2.17 goals per game and holds opponents to 1.08. Shots are nearly even with Princeton averaging 14.2 and while the opponents have put together 14.1 per game.
Harvard is 4-4-5 on the season and most recently dropped a 2-1 game to Boston College at home on Tuesday. The Crimson are looking to break out of a three-game slump of going 0-1-2 in their last three with ties to Cornell and Brown. Harvard has played a tough schedule meeting with UConn (1-1 tie), New Mexico (0-0 tie), UC Santa Barbara (2-0 loss) and Stanford (2-1 win) to name a few. Leading the Crimson in scoring with seven points is Brian Rogers with three goals and one assist. Scott Prozeller and Connor McCarthy have both scored two goals and one assist for five points apiece. Kyle Henderson also has five points on one goal and a team-leading three assists. Austin Harms has started in 10 games and has made 33 saves on 44 shots for a 1.01 goals against average and a .750 save percentage. Brett Conrad has also seen playing time and has made 13 saves on 16 shots in 290 minutes of action. Conrad was in net for the Crimson's latest game with BC, while Harms earned the shutout against Brown.
Harvard has netted 13 goals, while surrendering 14 tallies by the opposition this fall. Opponents hold the advantage in corner kicks, 56-38 and in shots, 175-146.
