Five Princetonians on NHL Opening Day Rosters

PRINCETON (10/7/10) - Five former Princeton hockey players on NHL opening day rosters as the 2010-11 NHL season kicks off on Thursday. Included in the group are Kevin Westgarth '07 and Mike Moore '08, making teams out of training camp for the first times in their careers.
Westgarth won the role as the enforcer for the Los Angeles Kings, which open the season on Saturday in Vancouver. Westgarth played in nine games for the Kings in the 2008-09 season but spent all of last season in the American Hockey League.
Moore won a spot on defense with the San Jose Sharks and is currently in Sweden with the team where they will open up on Friday against Columbus. Moore is one of seven defenseman on the roster of 24 players, which will have to be trimmed by a player when the team returns to North America. Moore has two full seasons in the AHL under his belt after graduating from Princeton in 2008.
Jeff Halpern '99 will begin his 11th season in the NHL and his first with the Montreal Canadiens. Halpern has 720 NHL games under his belt and has also played for Washington, Dallas, Tampa Bay and Los Angeles. Montreal opens the season Thursday night in Toronto.
George Parros '03 enters his sixth season with the Anaheim Ducks. Parros, who has also played for Los Angeles and Anaheim in his career has played in 289 games. Anaheim opens on Friday night in Detroit.
Darroll Powe '07 will begin his third season in the NHL and his third with the Philadelphia Flyers. Powe skated in the Stanley Cup finals a season ago and has 123 NHL games under his belt. The Flyers open the season on Thursday night in Pittsburgh.
In addition to those playing in the NHL, Princeton will also have several players competing in other professional leagues. Cam MacIntyre '10 (Worcester) and Kyle Hagel '08 (Rockford) are on AHL rosters. Daryl Marcoux '07 (Stockton) and Jody Pederson '10 (Elmira) are on ECHL rosters. Zane Kalemba '10 is on the roster for the CHL's Missouri Mavericks and Dustin Sproat '06 and Grant Goeckner-Zoeller '07 are currently playing in Europe.
