PRINCETON (11/3/10) -- The Princeton men's hockey team kicks off the ECAC Hockey portion of its schedule this weekend on the road at Yale and Brown. Princeton dropped a pair of 2-1 decisions last weekend at the Ivy Shootout at Yale to open the season.
Princeton fell to Dartmouth on Friday and Brown on Saturday. Matt Arhontas scored both of Princeton's goals, evening the opening game at 1-1 before Dartmouth scored in the third period, and giving Princeton an early 1-0 lead in the second game. In both games, the Tigers surrendered an early third period goal that proved to be the game winner.
Freshman Andrew Calof assisted on both of the goals for his first two collegiate points. In total, eight Princeton freshmen made their college debuts over the weekend, including goaltender Sean Bonar, who made 27 saves in the loss to Dartmouth. Mike Kramer and Derrick Pallis also had assists over the weekend.
The Tigers will begin this weekend with an identical trip to New Haven to face reigning ECAC Champion Yale. For Princeton it will be its third straight game in Ingalls Rink, but its first against the buildings primary tenant. Princeton dropped all three games to Yale a season ago, falling 5-2, 4-1 and 7-4. Yale has won four of the last five games in the series.
Yale opened its season last weekend with a pair of seven-goal outbursts against Brown and Dartmouth. The Bulldogs are currently ranked fifth in the national polls and were the ECAC preseason favorites.
Princeton will complete the weekend with its second game against Brown in as many weekends. Princeton fell 2-1 on Saturday and will look to reverse its fortunes in Providence this Saturday. Brown split at last weekend's tournament, dropping a 7-4 decision to Yale before edging the Tigers.
Princeton's season-opening stretch of games away from Hobey Baker Rink will continue next weekend when the Tigers travel to Colgate and Cornell. Princeton's home opener is scheduled for Nov. 19 against Harvard.
