Squash Teams End 2010 Portion Of Season With New England Weekend Trip
December 03, 2010 | Men's Squash, Women's Squash
Both the Princeton men's and women's squash teams will head to New England this weekend to complete the 2010 portions of their seasons. The key match will be Saturday afternoon, when both teams look to maintain undefeated Ivy League seasons against the Brown Bears.
The Princeton men received some early tests during the season-opening weekend before Thanksgiving, but they overcame a pair of improved squads in Franklin & Marshall (8-1) and Cornell (6-3). Both Peter and Philip Sopher earned 3-0 victories for the Tigers in the Ivy opener against Cornell, while top two players Todd Harrity and David Letourneau were pushed in 3-1 victories. Freshman Ash Egan made his debut at No. 9 and won a pair of 9-0 matches.
The Tiger women won three team matches and dropped only two individual matches during its opening weekend, which included Ivy League wins over both Columbia (9-0) and Cornell (7-2). Head coach Gail Ramsay has been excited about her freshman class, and that optimism was proven justified immediately. Led by Libby Eyre, who played the No. 3 position in the season opener, and Lexi Saunders, who played the No. 4 spot in two matches, members of the Class of 2014 went 9-1 in their first weekend. No. 1 player Julie Cerullo was perfect through the weekend.
Brown is 1-1 in both men's and women's squash this season, with both squads earning 9-0 wins over Tufts and losing 9-0 matches to Harvard. The men's match will open the day at noon, while the women will follow at 2. Both Princeton teams will head to Williams Sunday afternoon to take on both Williams (noon) and Middlebury (3 p.m.)
